MONTROSE — Talk with a lawyer free will be on Thursday, March 9 and the second Thursday of each month, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Montrose County Courthouse (1200 North Grand, the Justice Center) and Delta County Courthouse (501 Palmer). Low income residents who need answers to civil legal questions can talk with a lawyer free. Clients will first be screened to see if they qualify for these services. Meals on Wheels volunteers needed
MONTROSE — Volunteer drivers are needed for the Meals on Wheels Program in the Montrose area. There are between 80 to 85 meals delivered to the homebound Monday through Friday from the Montrose Pavilion Senior Center, on six different routes. The meals are picked up at 11 a.m. at the senior center. Each route takes from 45 minutes to one hour to deliver. Volunteers usually sign up for one week at a time. Seedling tree program
MONTROSE — Seedling trees are available to order through the Colorado State University Cooperative Extension and Colorado State Forest Service Conservation Tree Program. To qualify, participants must own at least two acres of land, and the trees must be planted for the purpose of creating windbreaks, wildlife habitat, erosion control, reforestation, visual screens, noise barriers or Christmas trees. They may not be used for ornamental or landscaping plantings or sold as live trees. The trees will be delivered in early May to locations in Delta, Montrose and Grand Junction. Community band conducting fund drive
MONTROSE — The Montrose Community Band is conducting its 2006 drive for supporting members. Basic membership in the band is $25. Supporting members will receive a semiannual newsletter, and they may attend the band's annual meeting in February and vote on the band's board of directors. Task force targets pedestrian safety
MONTROSE — The Traffic Issues Task Force, a group commissioned by the City of Montrose to examine current and future issues within the city, has targeted pedestrian safety as one of its top priorities. An educational pamphlet containing “rules of the road” and safety tips for pedestrians and motorists has been prepared for distribution to the public. The Montrose Police Department and Montrose Fire Protection District personnel will be working cooperatively to distribute the pamphlet to pedestrians and motorists on the street. Grant available for children
MONTROSE — Holistic Health Resources of the San Juans announces an Alternative Care Assistance Grant for children ages birth to 18 in Montrose and San Miguel Counties. The program will provide the following services for children, from 0-19 years: sports physicals, camp physicals, daycare physicals and school physicals. Fees are based on a sliding fee schedule. DAV looking for volunteer drivers
MONTROSE — The local Disabled American Veterans (DAV) chapter is seeking volunteers to act as drivers to transport Veterans Administration (VA) patients from the Montrose area to the VA clinic in Montrose and the VA hospital in Grand Junction. The local DAV chapter will receive a new seven-passenger van for this purpose, and the volunteers would each drive about one day each month. Therapeutic massage

Volunteers needed
MONTROSE — Drivers are needed for the Meals on Wheels Program in the Montrose area. More than 90 meals per day are now being delivered to the homebound Monday through Friday. There are currently five routes. The meals are picked up at 11 a.m. at the Montrose Senior Center, and it takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour to deliver. Volunteers usually sign up for one week at a time. To participate in this program, contact Debra at 249-9423 from 9 to 11 a.m., or leave a message.
