On Nov. 28, 2004, Ebersol, along with his two sons, taxied down the runway at Montrose Regional Airport in a Candair, Ltd CL-600. The pilot lost control of the plane shortly after takeoff and it crashed into a farm field.
Ebersol’s son, Edward “Teddy” Ebersol, pilot Luis Polanco and flight attendant Warren Richardson all died in the crash. Ebersol was pulled from the wreckage by his other son, Charlie.

In February, the National Transportation Safety Board released the flight recorder and an initial report on the crash but the overall cause of the crash has not been determined.
Ebersol reported water on the wings at the time of the crash.
“It seemed like it had taken a shower,” the report quoted Ebersol as saying.
The plane landed in Montrose to drop off Ebersol’s wife, Susan Saint James, and was headed to Indiana.
The couple has a house in Telluride.
On Tuesday, NTSB members will hear the evidence on the crash and make a determination of the cause. Shortly after the meeting, all of the material will be released to the public.
Because Ebersol is a high-profile person, the accident has garnered a lot of public and media attention. Ebersol and his wife appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” earlier in the year and discussed the crash.
A live web cast of the proceedings will be available at the board’s Web site at www.ntsb.gov.
