    Airport master plan

    MONTROSE — The public presentation of the draft recommendations for the Montrose Regional Airport Master Plan Update will be presented to the Montrose County Board of County Commissioners at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24 in the commissioners’ hearing room. For more information, call 249-3433.

    Farm workers picnic

    DELTA — The annual Farm Workers Appreciation Picnic will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27 at Cleland Park Pavilion in Delta. Food and activities are free for all farm workers and their families. The event is being sponsored by the Western Colorado Migrant and Rural Coalition.     Statewide homeless count

    MONTROSE — The State of Colorado has scheduled a Statewide Homeless Count the week of Aug. 28. Interviews with unsheltered homeless will be held at the following locations:

  • Montrose Regional Library, 10:30 a.m. to noon and 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 28.

  • M.A.D.A., 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 28.

  • Ute Indian Museum, 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m., Monday, Aug. 28.

  • On Aug. 29, Tri-County Resource Center and The Migrant Farm Workers Dormitory/Olathe Dorm will survey one member of each of the families residing within their own facilities.

    Growth seminar

    MONTROSE — The Montrose County League of Women Voters are sponsoring a growth seminar from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6 at the City Council Chambers. Panelists include: Greg Clifton, Ridgway town manager and planner; Noelle Hagan, City of Montrose mayor; Matt Miles, business and residential developer; Kevin Williams, former participant Uncompahgre Valley Action Plan; and Brian Wilson, Montrose County engineer. A question and answer period will follow.

    Public art displays

    MONTROSE — The Montrose Public Art Committee presents the unveiling of six new sculpture pieces on Friday, Sept. 29 during its event, “Montrose Celebrates Public Art” from 4 to 9 p.m. at Centennial Plaza. The event will feature activities for the entire family. Artists from the region who have prepared the sculpture art for display will be on hand to visit with members of the community.     Christ’s Kitchen needs volunteers

    MONTROSE — Christ’s Kitchen needs volunteers for three-hour periods on Mondays, Wednesdays, and especially on Fridays. For more details, call coordinator Nancy Hanna at 252-0612.

    Family education/support meetings

    MONTROSE — Midwestern Colorado Mental Health Center is providing Family Education and Support meetings regarding addictions and recovery issues. Meetings are held every Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the mental health center, 605 E. Miami. There is no fee for the meetings, and they are open to the public.     Senior referral desk

    MONTROSE — The Senior Resource Referral desk at the Montrose Pavilion is open Monday through Friday at 9 a.m. to provide resource information to assist seniors with problems and issues. For more information, call 252-4889.

    Ridgway State Park activities

    RIDGWAY — Ridgway State Park is hosting the following activities:

  • Friday, Aug. 25: Star Party with Black Canyon Astronomical Society, 8 p.m., visitor center lawn.

  • Saturday, Aug. 26: Nature Detectives: “Bear Tracks,” 9:30 to 11 a.m., visitor center.

  • Saturday, Aug. 26: Barbershop chorus, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., visitor center.

    Pavilion dance

    MONTROSE — The Montrose Pavilion Senior Center will hold a dance on Saturday, Aug. 26 featuring music by Harris and Harris.     Democratic barbecue

    Mt Sneffels Half Marathon

    RIDGWAY — The sixth annual Mt Sneffels Half Marathon will be held Saturday, Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m. The run goes from Ouray’s Hot Springs Park to downtown Ridgway following the Uncompahgre River along the back roads. Walkers are welcome. The entry fee is $35 and benefits the Mt Sneffels Education Foundation. The fee includes T-shirt and food at the finish line.     Altrusa book sales

    MONTROSE — Altrusa Club of Montrose will be having a book sale Saturday, Aug. 26 at the Montrose Daily Press from 8 a.m. to noon each day. Hardcover books are $1; paperbacks are two for $1. Proceeds go towards Altrusa International of Montrose Literacy Committee.

    Share Colorado

    MONTROSE — Share Colorado food box pickup will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 26 at the Montrose United Methodist Church. Volunteer drivers are needed to deliver food boxes. For more information, call 249-3716.

    Grand Mesa interpretive programs

    GRAND MESA — Summer interpretive programs are held at the Grand Mesa visitor’s center unless otherwise noted.

  • Saturday, Aug. 26: 6 p.m., “Geology of the Grand Mesa.”

  • Sunday, Aug. 27: 3 to 5 p.m., “Mountain Music,” at Powderhorn Ski Resort.

  • Saturday, Sept. 2: 6 p.m., “Moose on the Grand Mesa.”

    Take a hike

    MONTROSE — The Montrose 500 Mile Walkers have planned the following activities. Participants should meet at southwest corner of Wal-Mart parking lot at specified dates and times.

  • Thursdays, 8:30 a.m.: Walk from the bridge in Baldridge Park (no leader), option for those not participating in other Thursday hikes.

  • Aug. 26: Hope Lake, 7 a.m.

  • Aug. 31: Sutton Trail, 7:30 a.m.

    Men’s fraternity

    MONTROSE — All men of the community are invited to the kick-off orientation for Men’s Fraternity:Winning at Work & Home, from 6 to 7:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 7 at the Montrose Pavilion. The group offers weekly sessions that combine biblical teaching and small group interaction.
