Meals on Wheels volunteers needed
MONTROSE — Volunteer drivers are needed for the Meals on Wheels Program in the Montrose area. There are between 80 to 85 meals delivered to the homebound Monday through Friday from the Montrose Pavilion Senior Center, on six different routes. The meals are picked up at 11 a.m. at the senior center. Each route takes from 45 minutes to one hour to deliver. Volunteers usually sign up for one week at a time. Task force targets pedestrian safety
MONTROSE — The Traffic Issues Task Force, a group commissioned by the City of Montrose to examine current and future issues within the city, has targeted pedestrian safety as one of its top priorities. An educational pamphlet containing “rules of the road” and safety tips for pedestrians and motorists has been prepared for distribution to the public. The Montrose Police Department and Montrose Fire Protection District personnel will be working cooperatively to distribute the pamphlet to pedestrians and motorists on the street. Well child program
MONTROSE — Montrose County Health and Human Services is now offering a Well Child Program to the community. The program will provide the following services for children, from 0-19 years: sports physicals, camp physicals, daycare physicals and school physicals. Fees are based on a sliding fee schedule. DAV looking for volunteer drivers
MONTROSE — The local Disabled American Veterans (DAV) chapter is seeking volunteers to act as drivers to transport Veterans Administration (VA) patients from the Montrose area to the VA clinic in Montrose and the VA hospital in Grand Junction. The local DAV chapter will receive a new seven-passenger van for this purpose, and the volunteers would each drive about one day each month. Therapeutic massage
MONTROSE — The Montrose Recreation District is offering Therapeutic Massage Sessions for adults 50 and above on the first Thursday of each month. MONTROSE — The Center for Independence has a recreation/support group in Montrose and Delta specifically for adults who are visually impaired. The center currently has one recreation activity scheduled on the second Thursday of each month and is looking for volunteers for this program. Training and support is provided. MONTROSE — A new series of La Leche League meetings are being held at The First Church of the Nazarene in Montrose. You can start this service by calling the city of Montrose Utility Billing Department at 240-1466 and a form will be mailed to you. MONTROSE — The Montrose Library offers a selection of books and materials free for taking in the “free room” at the library. There are tax forms, information about a variety of organizations and programs in the community, magazines and mail order catalogs. In addition to a selection of books, the room also features encyclopedias, computer books, Readers Digest Condensed Books, miscellaneous fiction and nonfiction books and textbooks. Children’s books and magazines are offered when available.
