MMH fall clinics
MONTROSE — Nearly 200 physicians and nurses from Colorado and neighboring states will gather in Montrose Friday and Saturday, Sept. 29 and 30, for the 35th annual Montrose Fall Clinics. The Clinics are sponsored by Montrose Memorial Hospital and organized by the Fall Clinics Committee of the medical staff. The program is open to physicians and nurses. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Friday, with lectures throughout the day and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The cost is $100 for physicians and $50 for nurses and other healthcare professionals. Pre-registration is recommended.

Grants available
MONTROSE — The Montrose Community Foundation announces the yearly grant cycle for 2007. These grants are open to non-profit organizations. The grant should benefit the entire community, last a number of years and benefit a large number of individuals. Emphasis will be given to youth projects, but grants are not limited to youth. Crisis-line volunteer training
MONTROSE — Hilltop's Tri-County Resource Center is offering free crisis-line volunteer training. Forty (40) hours of volunteer training must be completed to become a resource center volunteer in any capacity. Junior shooters safety program
MONTROSE — Montrose Rod & Gun Club's junior shooters small bore rifle safety program registration is open to boys and girls, ages 10 to 16. Fire hydrant testing and flushing
MONTROSE — During September and October, city utility crews will begin a new phase of fire hydrant testing in conjunction with flushing dirt and rust accumulation from water mains. MONTROSE — As part of their ongoing efforts to promote recycling, the Environmental Committee of the Montrose Altrusa Club, along with the City of Montrose Recycle Task Force, is selling expandable compost bins for $20 each. Tucker rehab fund
MONTROSE — The friends of Doug Tucker, who was injured in an automobile accident near Olathe April 28, have established a fund to help defray medical expenses. Tucker was critically injured in the accident. He is recovering, but needs extensive rehabilitation, and insurance will not cover all the costs. New policy from state Dept. of Revenue
MONTROSE — Effective July 1, 2006 Montrose County Clerk and Recorder's Office will be implementing a new policy from the Colorado State Department of Revenue. This policy requires all motor vehicle transactions to be accompanied by any form of secure and verifiable identification. Volunteer board members sought
MONTROSE — Voices for Children, a non-profit agency that provides volunteer advocates for abused children in the court system, has openings on its board of directors. The board is seeking individuals from the business, education, law enforcement and general communities of Delta, Montrose, Ouray and Gunnison counties who have an interest in children. Board members typically spend an average of four to six hours per month. Migrant Seasonal Head Start
OLATHE — The Migrant Seasonal Head Start, an early childhood development program, is now providing services for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years of migrant families that are working in agriculture. Green waste drop off
MONTROSE — The new City of Montrose Green Waste Drop Off Center is now open. City residents can use the center, free of charge, Monday through Friday, 3 to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The center is located on the southwest corner of North Park and San Juan Avenues and will operate through Oct. 15. An attendant will be available during all hours of operation to assist those dropping off green waste and to ensure that only the proper materials are left at the site. Meals on Wheels volunteers needed
MONTROSE — Volunteer drivers are needed for the Meals on Wheels Program in the Montrose area. There are between 80 to 85 meals delivered to the homebound Monday through Friday from the Montrose Pavilion Senior Center, on six different routes. The meals are picked up at 11 a.m. at the senior center. Each route takes from 45 minutes to one hour to deliver. Volunteers usually sign up for one week at a time. MONTROSE — The Colorado Quitline, a free telephone service that helps callers quit smoking and using tobacco, has announced that it is now offering free nicotine replacement therapy in the form of patches to anyone who enrolls in the cessation program. Task force targets pedestrian safety
MONTROSE — The Traffic Issues Task Force, a group commissioned by the City of Montrose to examine current and future issues within the city, has targeted pedestrian safety as one of its top priorities. An educational pamphlet containing “rules of the road” and safety tips for pedestrians and motorists has been prepared for distribution to the public. The Montrose Police Department and Montrose Fire Protection District personnel will be working cooperatively to distribute the pamphlet to pedestrians and motorists on the street. Habitat needs volunteers
MONTROSE — Volunteers, individuals and groups, are needed by Habitat for Humanity for Montrose County to continue construction projects on two homes in the Mesa Vista subdivision off Locust Road. Habitat is a non-profit, ecumenical organization that builds houses, at no profit and no mortgage interest, with qualifying families.

MONTROSE — The Montrose Fire Protection District is asking all area residents to display their street numbers clearly on the front of their homes. DAV looking for volunteer drivers
