Christmas tree disposal
MONTROSE — The city of Montrose is providing complimentary Christmas tree disposal services to sanitation customers. Discarded trees can be placed curbside and will be collected by city crews within one week. There is no need to call for special pickup. Do not place trees in trash containers. Residents can also take their trees to the lot at the intersection of North Park and San Juan Avenues, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Ornaments, tinsel, tree stands and any other artificial materials must be removed from the tree prior to disposal. Artificial or frosted trees will not be accepted. All Christmas trees that are collected will be chipped for mulch.

Winter story time begins at library
MONTROSE — Weekly story times begin Tuesday, Jan. 9, at the Montrose Regional Library. VCB announces changes to funding policy
MONTROSE — The Board of Directors of the Montrose Visitors & Convention Bureau recently approved a change to the funding policy pertaining to special events. In recent years, applications for promotional funds have been accepted for review on a monthly basis, beginning January 2007, however, requests will be reviewed on a quarterly basis. Applications for funding must be submitted for review by the VCB Board no less than 120 days prior to the date of the actual event. Early application is appreciated; however, review of applications will take place no more than 180 days prior to the event. Meals on Wheels volunteers needed
MONTROSE — Volunteer drivers are needed for the Meals on Wheels Program in the Montrose area. There are between 80 to 85 meals delivered to the homebound Monday through Friday from the Montrose Pavilion Senior Center, on six different routes. The meals are picked up at 11 a.m. at the senior center. Each route takes from 45 minutes to one hour to deliver. Volunteers usually sign up for one week at a time. Task force targets pedestrian safety
MONTROSE — The Traffic Issues Task Force, a group commissioned by the City of Montrose to examine current and future issues within the city, has targeted pedestrian safety as one of its top priorities. An educational pamphlet containing “rules of the road” and safety tips for pedestrians and motorists has been prepared for distribution to the public. MONTROSE — Holistic Health Resources of the San Juans announces an Alternative Care Assistance Grant for children ages birth to 18 in Montrose and San Miguel Counties. Services available through the grant include: counseling, physical therapy, hippotherapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, massage and other alternative and complementary healthcare modalities. Well child program
MONTROSE — Montrose County Health and Human Services is now offering a Well Child Program to the community. The program will provide the following services for children, from 0-19 years: sports physicals, camp physicals, daycare physicals and school physicals. Fees are based on a sliding fee schedule. DAV looking for volunteer drivers
MONTROSE — The local Disabled American Veterans (DAV) chapter is seeking volunteers to act as drivers to transport Veterans Administration (VA) patients from the Montrose area to the VA clinic in Montrose and the VA hospital in Grand Junction. The local DAV chapter will receive a new seven-passenger van for this purpose, and the volunteers would each drive about one day each month. Become a volunteer for visually impaired
MONTROSE — The Center for Independence has a recreation/support group in Montrose and Delta specifically for adults who are visually impaired. The center currently has one recreation activity scheduled on the second Thursday of each month and is looking for volunteers for this program. Training and support is provided. La Leche League info
MONTROSE — A new series of La Leche League meetings are being held at The First Church of the Nazarene in Montrose. Services available include monthly informational meetings, lending library and 24-hour phone help for breastfeeding problems or questions. All mothers and their babies are welcome. MONTROSE — Now city residents can authorize payments for city utilities directly from their checking or savings accounts at no charge. You can start this service by calling the city of Montrose Utility Billing Department at 240-1466 and a form will be mailed to you. Residents can also access the form on the City Web site at http://ci.montrose.co.us.

MONTROSE — Montrose Memorial Hospital and the Montrose RE-1J Interagency Transition Board have created a human services resource guide for the central Western slope of Colorado on the Web site www.montrosehumanresource.com. MONTROSE — The Montrose Library offers a selection of books and materials free for taking in the “free room” at the library. There are tax forms, information about a variety of organizations and programs in the community, magazines and mail order catalogs. In addition to a selection of books, the room also features encyclopedias, computer books, Readers Digest Condensed Books, miscellaneous fiction and nonfiction books and textbooks. Children’s books and magazines are offered when available.
