MONTROSE — Montrose Memorial Hospital will hold its annual health fair from 6:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 10 at the Montrose Pavilion. Early blood draws, which are held in conjunction with the health fair, will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Feb. 6-10 at the Pavilion Senior Center. Love Notes concert

    Winter story time begins at library

    MONTROSE — Weekly story times begin Tuesday, Jan. 9, at the Montrose Regional Library. Children between the ages of 3 and 5 are invited to attend preschool story time at either 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays or 10 a.m. Wednesdays. These sessions last about one hour and include a craft time.     UVLA continues tradition of legal service

    MONTROSE — Uncompahgre Volunteer Legal Aid (UVLA) provides low-income residents of Montrose, Ouray and San Miguel counties and elderly residents of Montrose, Delta, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Ouray and San Miguel counties with legal assistance.     VCB announces changes to funding policy

    MONTROSE — The Board of Directors of the Montrose Visitors & Convention Bureau recently approved a change to the funding policy pertaining to special events. In recent years, applications for promotional funds have been accepted for review on a monthly basis, beginning January 2007, however, requests will be reviewed on a quarterly basis. Applications for funding must be submitted for review by the VCB Board no less than 120 days prior to the date of the actual event. Early application is appreciated; however, review of applications will take place no more than 180 days prior to the event.     New policy from state Dept. of Revenue

    MONTROSE — Effective July 1, 2006 Montrose County Clerk and Recorder’s Office will be implementing a new policy from the Colorado State Department of Revenue. This policy requires all motor vehicle transactions to be accompanied by any form of secure and verifiable identification. The following is a list of transactions that will require your identification:

  • New titles

  • Duplicate titles

  • New registrations

  • New temporary registration permits

  • New placards

    Also when someone other than a named owner chooses to complete a transaction for the named owner, the named owner will be required to provide a non-secure power of attorney naming the agent. All dealers are required to include a readable photocopy of the SVI to complete title transactions.     Volunteer board members sought

    MONTROSE — Voices for Children, a non-profit agency that provides volunteer advocates for abused children in the court system, has openings on its board of directors. The board is seeking individuals from the business, education, law enforcement and general communities of Delta, Montrose, Ouray and Gunnison counties who have an interest in children. Board members typically spend an average of four to six hours per month.     Migrant Seasonal Head Start

    Meals on Wheels volunteers needed

    MONTROSE — Volunteer drivers are needed for the Meals on Wheels Program in the Montrose area. There are between 80 to 85 meals delivered to the homebound Monday through Friday from the Montrose Pavilion Senior Center, on six different routes. The meals are picked up at 11 a.m. at the senior center. Each route takes from 45 minutes to one hour to deliver. Volunteers usually sign up for one week at a time.     MONTROSE — The Colorado Quitline, a free telephone service that helps callers quit smoking and using tobacco, has announced that it is now offering free nicotine replacement therapy in the form of patches to anyone who enrolls in the cessation program.     Task force targets pedestrian safety

    MONTROSE — The Traffic Issues Task Force, a group commissioned by the City of Montrose to examine current and future issues within the city, has targeted pedestrian safety as one of its top priorities. An educational pamphlet containing “rules of the road” and safety tips for pedestrians and motorists has been prepared for distribution to the public. The Montrose Police Department and Montrose Fire Protection District personnel will be working cooperatively to distribute the pamphlet to pedestrians and motorists on the street. Homes without street numbers displayed are difficult for fire, EMS, and police services to locate, especially at night.     DAV looking for volunteer drivers

    MONTROSE — The local Disabled American Veterans (DAV) chapter is seeking volunteers to act as drivers to transport Veterans Administration (VA) patients from the Montrose area to the VA clinic in Montrose and the VA hospital in Grand Junction. The local DAV chapter will receive a new seven-passenger van for this purpose, and the volunteers would each drive about one day each month.     Become a volunteer for visually impaired

    MONTROSE — The Center for Independence has a recreation/support group in Montrose and Delta specifically for adults who are visually impaired. The center currently has one recreation activity scheduled on the second Thursday of each month and is looking for volunteers for this program. Training and support is provided.     MONTROSE — A new series of La Leche League meetings are being held at The First Church of the Nazarene in Montrose. Services available include monthly informational meetings, lending library and 24-hour phone help for breastfeeding problems or questions. All mothers and their babies are welcome.     Pay utilities more easily

    MONTROSE — Now city residents can authorize payments for city utilities directly from their checking or savings accounts at no charge. You can start this service by calling the city of Montrose Utility Billing Department at 240-1466 and a form will be mailed to you. Residents can also access the form on the City Web site at http://ci.montrose.co.us.

    Resource guide available

    MONTROSE — Montrose Memorial Hospital and the Montrose RE-1J Interagency Transition Board have created a human services resource guide for the central Western slope of Colorado on the Web site www.montrosehumanresource.com. Current participants are encouraged to visit this Web site and check their information for accuracy.     Visit free room at library

    MONTROSE — The Montrose Library offers a selection of books and materials free for taking in the “free room” at the library. There are tax forms, information about a variety of organizations and programs in the community, magazines and mail order catalogs. In addition to a selection of books, the room also features encyclopedias, computer books, Readers Digest Condensed Books, miscellaneous fiction and nonfiction books and textbooks. Children’s books and magazines are offered when available.
