GUNNISON COUNTY — One person died and another was seriously injured when their vehicle slammed into the tank of a Kenworth tractor Friday.

The Colorado State Patrol did not immediately release the names of the driver and passenger in a Dodge Intrepid, but reported the vehicle was west on Highway 50, near milepost 198.8, when it came around a curve and into oncoming traffic. The front and left side of the vehicle collided with the left saddle-tank of the Kenworth, which was towing a flatbed trailer.

The Intrepid’s driver died at the scene, while the passenger sustained a lacerated kidney and bruised or fractured ribs, the CSP reported. That person was taken to the Gunnison Valley Hospital.

The CSP said Friday that alcohol might have been a factor in the crash.
