MONTROSE — The city of Montrose will be mailing copies of a new consumer confidence report concerning the community water systems served by Project 7 Water Authority.
The city began mailing the reports to residents Wednesday. The report covers the data collected in 2006. Residents are encouraged to review this information and contact their water provider or Project 7 with any questions.

An annual water quality consumer confidence report is required under 1996 Congressional amendments to the Safe Water Drinking Act. A community water system is defined as a system that has at least 15 service connections serving year-round residents. Typically, these systems include municipalities, homeowners associations, districts and other such organizations.
The reports include information on source water, the levels of any detected contaminants and compliance with drinking rules, plus certain educational materials.
Trujillo family fund
MONTROSE — A benefit fund for the E.J. and Melissa Trujillo family has been set up at both Montrose Bank locations. The fund will help with a variety of expenses for their 8-year-old son who was recently diagnosed with lymphoma.

Black Canyon Ascent
MONTROSE — The San Juan Mountain Runners will host the 32nd annual Black Canyon Ascent on Saturday, May 12. Walkers will start at 7:30 a.m., followed by runners at 8 a.m. The race begins at the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and Colo. 347, east of Montrose. The six-mile road race climbs 2,000 feet. May 1 deadline for emergency farm loans

Crime free program
MONTROSE — The Montrose Police Department will host a "crime-free multi-housing" training sessions for the owners, managers and landlords of rental properties.

Memorial fund set up
OURAY — A memorial fund has been set up in honor of Ouray residents Addie Sim and Ramona Radcliff. Sim served as Ouray County Clerk from 1963 to 1994. She passed away Jan. 18, 2007. Radcliff served as Ouray County Treasurer from 1965 to the end of 2006. She passed away Feb. 23, 2007. Donations will be used to purchase a bench to be placed outside the Ouray County Courthouse. Donate to Pet Overpopulation Fund
MONTROSE — The Pet Overpopulation Fund, which helps furnish grants to veterinarians and animal care and control agencies to subsidize spay/neuter programs, is asking taxpayers to donate to the cause.
Donations can be made by checking off line 38 of the state income tax form and indicating the amount of the donation. The state will forward the designated amount to the fund and all donations are used to the benefit of cats and dogs. Locally, the Montrose Animal Protection Agency recieved a $15,000 grant from 2005 donations.

Flamingo flocking fund-raiser
MONTROSE — The Montrose High School ASTRA Club is once again accepting orders for flamingo flockings. "Flamingos for Friends and Foes." Public Lands Center seeking volunteers

Seedling tree program
MONTROSE — Seedling trees are now available to order through the Colorado State University Cooperative Extension and Colorado State Forest Service Conservation Tree Program. To qualify you must own at least two acres of land. UVLA continues tradition of legal service

VCB announces changes to funding policy
MONTROSE — The Board of Directors of the Montrose Visitors & Convention Bureau recently approved a change to the funding policy pertaining to special events. In recent years, applications for promotional funds have been accepted for review on a monthly basis, beginning January 2007, however, requests will be reviewed on a quarterly basis. Applications for funding must be submitted for review by the VCB Board no less than 120 days prior to the date of the actual event. Early application is appreciated; however, review of applications will take place no more than 180 days prior to the event. New policy from state Dept. of Revenue
MONTROSE — Effective July 1, 2006 Montrose County Clerk and Recorder's Office will be implementing a new policy from the Colorado State Department of Revenue. This policy requires all motor vehicle transactions to be accompanied by any form of secure and verifiable identification. MONTROSE — Voices for Children, a non-profit agency that provides volunteer advocates for abused children in the court system, has openings on its board of directors. Meals on Wheels volunteers needed
MONTROSE — Volunteer drivers are needed for the Meals on Wheels Program in the Montrose area. There are between 80 to 85 meals delivered to the homebound Monday through Friday from the Montrose Pavilion Senior Center, on six different routes. The meals are picked up at 11 a.m. at the senior center. Each route takes from 45 minutes to one hour to deliver. Volunteers usually sign up for one week at a time. Task force targets pedestrian safety
MONTROSE — The Traffic Issues Task Force, a group commissioned by the City of Montrose to examine current and future issues within the city, has targeted pedestrian safety as one of its top priorities. An educational pamphlet containing “rules of the road” and safety tips for pedestrians and motorists has been prepared for distribution to the public. The Montrose Police Department and Montrose Fire Protection District personnel will be working cooperatively to distribute the pamphlet to pedestrians and motorists on the street.
