MONTROSE — A fire in the Montrose Athletic Club women’s sauna Wednesday caused an estimated $50,000 in damages.

“Life kind of throws you these curveballs once in a while and you have to take a cut at them or you lose out,” MAC owner Mead Serra said.

The club remains open, though the women’s locker room is temporarily closed for restoration. Although it remains undetermined how the fire ignited, it started in the sauna’s heating unit, Serra said.

MAC employee Corey Larson thought he had extinguished the fire before firefighters arrived, but it spread to the ceiling between the basement and the first floor. Upon its arrival, the Montrose Fire Protection District pulled down parts of the ceiling and extinguished the fire, according to a press release.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

In addition to the locker room damages, other parts of the building require repainting and carpet cleaning.

Our family and I will miss him for the time being, for i know that my family and i will see him once again when we meet in heaven. i just want to leave this bible scripture: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9 "
