MONTROSE — David L. Lutz, beloved husband, father and friend, went on to be with the Lord on Friday evening, July 13, 2007, after a long term illness starting in 2004. A native to Montrose, Dave was born on Oct. 6, 1950, to Donald and Betty Freeman. After the death of his father, Betty married Terry Lutz, who adopted both David and his older brother, Larry. They grew up ranching with the Freeman’s and farming with the Lutz’s. Dave loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing camping and playing the guitar. In 1975, Dave gave his life to the Lord and began working in music ministry in Ohio with his wife, Terri, where they stayed until 1996, at which time they moved to Mesa, Ariz. and continued in the work of the ministry. In 2003, they returned to Colorado and eventually settled in Olathe to be near family. Dave pastored a small cowboy church in Pea Green from 2004 until recently. Being an accomplished singer/songwriter, Dave played at various community events with his son David playing the fiddle, performing the old cowboy songs and original Christian songs that he had written. He will be greatly missed.

His grandparents, Pearl and Lester Freeman and Jay and Grace Lutz, his natural father, Donald Freeman and his mother, Betty Lutz preceded Dave in death. He is survived by his wife, Terri and son, David of Olathe along with his brother, Larry Lutz of Parker, Colo.; and his stepfather Terry Lutz of Montrose.

A memorial service will be held at the Pea Green Community Hall in Pea Green off Highway 348 halfway between Olathe and Delta on Friday, July 20, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. A private interment will take place. A reception for family and friends will be held at the Menoken Christian Church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to help the family cover the massive medical bills that accumulated during Dave’s illness. Those wishing to contribute can contact Alpine Bank, 2770 Alpine Drive, Montrose, CO 81401 (970) 240-0900.
