John Martin ‘Bill’ McIntire OLATHE — Longtime Olathe area resident, John Martin “Bill” McIntire, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at his daughter’s residence. He was 92 years of age. A visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at Montrose Christian Church, 2351 Sunnyside Road. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at the Montrose Christian Church with Jonathan King and Chaplain Don Barr presiding. Interment will follow at the Olathe Cemetery. On June 5, 1915, John Martin McIntire was born to Alvin Perry and Maude (McGreagor) McIntire in Olathe, Colo., where he also spent his childhood and attended school. He furthered his education at Colorado State University. Bill married Evanell Pemberton in Moab, Utah in 1940 and brought his new wife home to the Olathe farm to live in the same “little” house where Bill was born. Though the farm grew and a new home was built, Bill and Evanell stayed on the same farm for 52 years. Evanell preceded him in death on May 23, 1992. Bill and his brother, Fermor owned and worked two farms for 47 years on California Mesa. During those years, when the working day was done, Bill’s presence was known by the sound of a deep, baritone song. It was often said you could hear Bill before you could see him. With a quick wit and unexpected sense of humor, Bill set an example on how to age with grace. Even in the last few days of his life, Bill kept his family laughing and smiling as if to let them know that he was ready for the next big adventure. Bill was a member of the Montrose Christian Church, Potato Growers, ASC Pinochle Club, Olathe Senior Citizens and he was active in the Booster Club. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends. Those grateful to have shared in Bill’s life include his son, Martin Rae McIntire and his wife Marilyn of Flower Mound, Texas; two daughters, RhueAnn and her husband Dale Squillace of Arvada, Colo. and Dianne and her husband Al Pfifer of Olathe, Colo.; three sister-in-laws: Stella Benezette and her husband Ben of Downing, Calif., Helen Ficke and Sammy Pemberton both of Chilhowee, Mo.; and a special friend, Pauline Cooper. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife Evanell, Bill was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harvey, Fermor and Kenneth McIntire; and one sister-in-law, Audrey Buzzard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, Colorado 81402. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory, (970) 874-9988.
