Henrietta “Peggie” Eliza Roeder Wissel born May 12, 1913 in Lincoln, Neb., peacefully departed from this life Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007 surrounded by family at the Rocky Mountain Care facility in Clearfield, Utah.
Peggie enjoyed summers during high school going to Lake Superior on Madeline Island in Wisconsin where she and a friend, who soon became her sister-in-law, worked as house maids at people’s summer homes. She then married Walter Kenneth Wissel in 1936 with whom she had played in the Hickman, Neb. high school band and also graduated with in 1931. Peggie, too, was a cheerleader during her high school years. She and Walter followed other brothers of Walter’s to Montrose, Colo. in 1938. After a few temporary homes and the births of their son Del Ray and daughter Cheryl Ann, they bought 80 acres on Spring Creek Mesa where they built their home literally from the ground up and farmed the land and had dairy cattle. Eventually in May of 1953 they were able to move up to the ground level of the home and in mid May their daughter Verla, Kaye was born.

Peggie spent her life as a loving mother, wife, and homemaker which she loved wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, Walter passed away at the age of 51 in 1965. Peggie and Verla, who was still at home, then moved into town where she worked at Anderson Drug Store in the restaurant and at Harriman’s Delicatessen also in the kitchen for many years as a cook and clerk. Her homemade chili became one of the deli’s favorites on the menu.
With her children and grandchildren mainly living in Utah, she chose to move to Utah in 1986 so she could enjoy and build memories with her family. She moved to Ogden and then settled in Kaysville. In 2000 she moved in with Del and Kayleen Wissel. They and her family lovingly cared for her and her needs until July 2007.
Peggie is preceded in death by her mother Eva Roeder and her husband Walter Wissel. Surviving are her children Del Wissel, Cheryl Davison and Verla Black. Her life has also been blessed with 10 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and thus far seven great-great-grandchildren.
