Faye A. McKinnon

MONTROSE — Lifetime Montrose resident, Faye A. McKinnon, passed away Monday afternoon, Oct. 22, 2007 at the age of 92. She was born Wuanita Anderson to H. Rodney and Vivian (Burge) Anderson on June 7, 1915 in Montrose, Colo. Faye’s father was the original owner, and founder of a landmark business, Anderson Drug Company, located on Main Street in Montrose.

Faye graduated from Montrose High School in 1932 and enrolled at the University of Colorado in Boulder for one year. She married William A. “Weeds” McKinnon on July 1, 1934, at her parents home in Montrose. Weeds continued in the family-owned business, Anderson Drug Co., until his retirement. He preceded her in death in 1984.

Faye was a lifetime member of the Hillcrest Congregational Church and served as an organist for many years. She was also a proud member of P.E.O. Chapter FJ and Kappa Alfa Theta Sorority. Faye absolutely loved life in every sense of the word. As a girl, Faye enjoyed visiting her grandparents on their ranch in Norwood, Colo. Music was a part of her everyday life. She enjoyed spending time in the outdoors; wildlife, watching birds at her birdfeeder, going fishing and her pet dogs. Faye was an exceptional gardener and cook. Faye enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid golfer. In her later years, she traveled extensively, touring many different countries.

Survivors include three children: Shaunalee Prather and husband Tom of Gunnison, Colo., W. Rodney McKinnon of Log Hill Mesa, Colo., Marilee Moore and husband Rob of Grand Junction, Colo.; six grandchildren: Allyson Robbins and husband Mike of Centenniel, Colo., Lynn Tucker and husband Kenny of Gunnison, Colo., Tiffany McNeil of Kittredge, Colo., Kamilee McNeil and husband Jeff Fleischman of Phoenix, Ariz., Derek McNeil and wife Paula of Grand Junction, Colo., Mandalee McNeil of Fort Collins, Colo., and nine great-grandchildren. 

Faye was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Donnalou McKinnon; and one grandson, Greg Allen. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Hillcrest Congregational Church, Audio and Visual Department in memory of Faye McKinnon, 611 Hillcrest, Montrose, CO 81401 or the donor’s choice.
