Delta's City Council on Tuesday approved the Center's request to name the city as the applicant in a grant request to the Department of Local Affairs. The center, a private non-profit providing mental health services for rural Western Colorado, is not an eligible applicant for a Community Development Block Grant and requested the city be its sponsor.
"We've just gotten to a point where we are growing and our services are growing," Jon Gordon, The Center For Mental Health executive director, told the council.

To help address the population growth in Delta and Montrose counties, the non-profit organization has increased staff numbers by 44 percent over the past four years, the center's request noted.
In response to address the growing need for services, the center's board of directors approved a capital improvement plan including the addition of 3,049 square feet to the clinical services office in Montrose and the purchase and remodel of a more than 4,000-square-foot office and empowerment center in Delta. The total project cost of this plan is $2.68 million.
The current center in Delta employs 13 people and offers services typically to more than 733 people annually.
