William K. Young Sr.  

Jan. 17, 1911 — Dec. 13, 2007

MONTROSE — William K. Young Sr. passed away early Thursday morning, Dec. 13, 2007 at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose, Colo., at the age of 96. He was born Jan. 17, 1911 in Brookfield, Mo. to William Henry and Elizabeth (Kesel) Young. William’s family moved to Colorado, but at the young age of 5 or 6, William returned to Brookfield, Mo. where he spent the rest of his childhood and graduated from high school. He also attended a vocational school in Missouri on taxidermy. In 1930, William returned to Montrose, Colo. and met Helen Keller, and they were married in 1931 in Montrose, Colo. They celebrated 51 years of marriage before Helen’s death in 1982 in Montrose. William later married Eula Pauli, and she also preceded him in death.

William was a lifetime member of the Montrose Elks Lodge No. 1053, the grange and the Operator Union.  He loved watching college football, family get-togethers and spending time at his cabin he had built many years ago. William loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening.

Suvivors include his son, William K. Young Jr. and wife Cheryl of Olathe, Colo.; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren. William was preceded in death by his wives, Helen and Eula; one son, Floyd Young; daughter, Joan Gibbs; two brothers, Floyd and Walter Young; and a sister, Ada Musgrave.

A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at 11 a.m., at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. The service will conclude at the chapel. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Grand View Cemetery, Montrose, Colo.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Laradon Hall for Disabled Children, c/o Montrose Elks Lodge No. 1053, in memory of William Young, 801 S. Hillcrest Dr., Montrose, CO 81401.
