Virginia Alma Hampton Childs Virginia Alma Hampton Childs Jan. 7, 1929 — Dec. 17, 2007 MONTROSE — Virginia Alma Hampton Childs, 78, of Montrose, passed away Dec. 17, 2007 in Montrose. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be Dec. 26, 2007, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose. Private services will be held at Crippin Funeral Home on Dec. 27, 2007. A lifelong resident of Montrose, Virginia Alma Hampton was born Jan. 7, 1929 in Montrose, the daughter of T. A. (Mickey) Hampton and Alma Wolfe Hampton. She grew up on the family ranch west of Montrose and on the homestead on the Big Cimarron. She attended grade school at Oak Grove and graduated from Montrose County High School. She then attended Western State College, pursuing a teaching degree and playing softball on the college’s traveling team. On Jan. 30, 1955 she was married to Chelcie Douglas Childs, Jr., sharing 33 years together before his death in 1988. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Shane) Nicolas; sons, David (Paula) Childs, and Kevin (Bonnie) Childs of Montrose; sisters, Alice (Audie) Smith, and Patricia Niess of Grand Junction; one brother, Dale Hampton of Mack; her grandchildren, Troy (Erin) Fairclough of Anchorage, Alaska, Dhani (Paul) Callahan of Littleton, Colo., Aaron (Michelle) Fairclough of Camp Pendleton, Calif., Jeremy (Violet) Ayers of Montrose, Ryan Fairclough of Wolcott, Colo., Shauna (Ryan) Brown of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Brandi Moore, Jeremiah Moore, Trevor Childs, Casey Childs and Kaitlin Nicolas, all of Montrose, Colo.; and five great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chelcie D. Childs; her parents, T. A. and Alma Hampton; brothers, Mickey, Wade, Lloyd and Bobby Hampton; sister, Shirley Johnston; and infant sister, Norma Ruth Hampton. Virginia was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed bowling and family softball. Her passion was working in her beautiful yard and garden. Arrangements are being handled by Crippin Funeral Home, 802 E.
