RIDGWAY — Gerrye Lee Widger, age 68, of Ridgway, Colo., died suddenly Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at her residence in Ridgway.

Gerrye Lee Ansel was born on Sept. 5, 1939 in Detroit, Mich. to Vern Lee and Geraldine (nee: Arndt) Ansel, who have preceded her in death. She was born at home, and delivered by her grandfather.

She was a resident of Ridgway, Colo. for seven years and was a former resident of Bloomfield Hills, Mich. for over 30 years.

Gerrye graduated from Grosse Pointe High School. She attended the University of Michigan, and also Hillsdale College, where she met her future husband, William F. “Bill” Widger. They married June 18, 1960 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Grosse Pointe, Mich.

She was a former active member of the Village Women’s Club in Bloomfield Hills. She also volunteered at the D.I.A. (Detroit Institute of Arts), taking artwork to schools to teach children; and she volunteered for the Channel 56 Auction in many different capacities for a lot of years.

Gerrye loved to travel and had traveled extensively all over the world, including safaris. She loved to dance and was a phenomenal tour guide. She will be remembered for her wonderful memory, and as the “Matriarch of the Family.”  

Through her husband’s business opportunity, they lived in England for a time while he operated Domino’s Pizza in Oxford. She served as Social Chairperson for this, and for his other businesses in the United States: Widger Chemical Company and Tuff-Kote.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Widger of Ridgway, Colo.; daughters, Whitney A. Budzinski (John) of Clarkston, Mich., Wendy L. Widger of Ridgway, Colo., Wynnet Lyons (Christopher) of Thorton, Colo.; sons, William, Jr. (Patricia) of Grosse Ile, Mich., Warren R. (Tara) of Strongsville, Ohio; grandchildren: Adam, Melinda, Alexis, Alex, J.P., T.J., Riley, Austin, Brandon, Madison, Jordan, Hailey, and Ashton; cousins, Elaine Muir and Corine Malone. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, from 3 to 8 p.m. at A. J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road, Troy, MI  48084. An Evening Rosary Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at 11 a.m., at St. Hugo of the Hills Stone Chapel, 2215 Opdyke Road, Bloomfield Hills, with Rev. Msgr. Anthony M. Tocco officiating. Visitation at the church will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy, Mich.
