Last year the Daily Press was the editorial sweepstakes winner, but finished just behind the Craig Daily Press this year.
In all, the Montrose Daily Press won 20 awards in a variety of categories, including eight first place honors. The Class IV contest was judged by journalists and editors from Minnesota. The Daily Press also received a number of awards from the Associated Press (see Page 1 story). Attending the meeting from the Daily Press were managing editor Bill Swaim, senior writer Katharhynn Heidelberg, photojournalist Barton Glasser and reporter Robert Allen.
