The Montrose Daily Press recently hosted two live forums with Montrose City Council candidates competing for the District IV and At-Large seats.

We want to know what you thought of the live forum as well as any issues you might have had while viewing. It would also be helpful for us to know how we could improve upon the webcast in the future and to also let us know what went well.

We plan on doing "live" phone-in questions / e-mails from viewers on our next attempt, which should provide more interactivity.

This blog is also a good place to discuss the candidates and issues themselves from the live webcast or from the video segments we have provided, viewable by topic in segments, on our "multimedia" page.

In a nutshell, we want to know the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Thanks,

" We agree with MichaelSW. He is well informed on many issues. Maybe he should run for MAYOR! We need a bus service in Montrose. I bet it can even serve tourists. KATHY ELLIS FOR CITY COUNCIL! Woo hoo!!!!!!!! "

" >9 out of ten people I spoke with would love to see a city bus and also seeing it going to Olathe and Delta.<

    This is absolutely fantastic!

Eight out of those same ten people would leap-up to scream SOCIALIST if they had to pay another 1% sales tax to create a bus system.

The fare box will not support a bus system in a scattered population such as Montrose. It has to subsidized.

You don't know about the existing bike routes?

Potholes? How about the difference between the city and the county? "

" Improved roads would nice. With $4 a gallon gas coming we need a Bike Route like most cities have. You must be a rich man Bald Jim, thinkly so harshly of a bus system. 9 out of ten people I spoke with would love to see a city bus and also seeing it going to Olathe and Delta. Also, maybe that lady's car wouldnt have broken down if there werent so many potholes and messed up roads.MONTROSE RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

" >My car broke down and we had to walk 3 miles to the store. ... Does that mean a bus service, improved roads or something else?<
That means improved roads and for sure not a scheduled bus for people who have a broken car.
You have to get REAL about bus service! It costs big-bucks and can't be just a stand-by for when your car is busted. "

" What's the new City Council going to do about a lack of transportation here in Montrose? Montrose Senior Transportation is nice for disabled people or the elderly, but what about the other 90%? My car broke down and we had to walk 3 miles to the store. Kathy Ellis is the only person who has "Transportation" at the top of the agenda. Does that mean a bus service, improved roads or something else? I'm voting for Kathy Ellis since she is the only candidate who's brochure I've seen even has the word "Transportation" on it. "

" This is for Kathy Ellis. I am a 32 year old married male, father of 3 children. Please get elected! Montrose can use a Christian family oriented person like yourself on the City Council. I see your mobile billboard all over Montrose, aka The Patriotic Motorcycle Person. It makes me proud, along with several other motorists honking, to see such a large American Flag hanging off that bike. Very Humble of you to let the People see this first, but under it your campaign sign. "

" You all have interesting solutions for problems you don't have.
I have seriously considered running for city council. I did not because:
1} Where I live, the only seat available is 'at large' and the effort is not worth it for a two year term.
2} I don't think my health would stand up under having to suffer through the meetings required. One has to curb one's response to stupidity.
    3} Naturally, I doubt I could be elected. "

    " Baldy,

you can come into the 21st century now.......

dial up was superceded years ago.......

...can anyone even by a computer with a dialup modem in it anymore?....haha

oh...and dont forget...TV is going digital !.....lol. "

    " Bald jim,

You know so much more than the rest of us. Maybe you should run for office and fix our problems. I would vote for you.

Everybody knows in this modern world "dial-up" is like driving a team of horses in the Indy 500. So don't be so quick to bash the DP just because you have "dial-up" problem. And if this problem lasts up to four hours seek high-speed assistance.

I thought the debates were a good technical achievement for the DP.... And, President Bush is still a moron... long live democracy!!! "

MichaelSW wrote on Mar 13, 2008 11:17 AM:

    " Bald Jim,
Nowadays, High Speed DSL or Broadband is just as cheap as dialup. Call Quest and ask them how to hook up. You just need to rent or buy a modem that plugs into your current PC, which should have at least Windows XP or Windows XP2 installed. Approximately 80%of people are now on high speed. If you don't want to go through Qwest, you can get high speed from Bresnan, our local cable company. Also, most cities, mainly larger ones do have plans in regard to illegal citizens. Internet has info. "

BaldJim wrote on Mar 11, 2008 9:28 AM:

    " Bill Swaim,

How many people have 'hi-speed' internet connections so they can look at your stuff? Not me. I'm still "dial-up" so if your stuff works, it takes a long time.

Is there some way you could hook-up with the city's cable channel to use it for something other than a slide show? "

BaldJim wrote on Mar 11, 2008 9:18 AM:

    " kbeckham

That's not the city council's problem.

Do you have any local issues under control of the local government to ask about? "

" I as a concerned citizen would like to ask all of the canidates how they are going to handle our illegal alien problem.I know by my own experience that the illegal aliens who come to Montrose and get into trouble are getting away with more illegal doings, than an American Citizen would, if they got into the same trouble. This ties the courts hands up,because they do not have a SS#. This is not fair, we need someone to fight for our rights. I am not the only one who has been hurt by this terrible dilemma. Please help us. Thank you "

    " Hello,
I was just wondering who that anonymous person is on the cool looking motorcycle with the big american flag flying off the back? They have some sort of political sign too. I could'nt tell is it's male or female, black, white, etc. They are covered from head to toe in a suit with a tinted helmet so a person can't see their face. Maybe Montrose has a Superhero! ha! "

" I would like to know more about this allegation that Erika has made against Carlos. The phone call that she received where the individual asked her to drop out of the election. There is a character issue at hand here. Either she received an anonymous phone call from someone and she just assumed that it was directed from Carlos or Carlos is just lying. Either way, someone is acting inappropriately. I'm sick of politicians on any level who are immoral. Does anybody have any input on this? "

" Thanks Montrose Daily Press for hosting these 2 live forums. That would be great, if in the future, the citizens watching on the internet could email in questions or interact in a live web chat. I'm sure that many people were watching, as my friends and I were. Erica Lewis Kennedy was great, she has a good track record and she has our votes for the At Large Seat. Kathy Ellis also has the vote of my family and several friends for District 4. Thanks again! "
