Violet Louise Bond

June 10, 1913 — April 15, 2008

MONTROSE — Violet Louise Bond, 94, passed away April 15, 2008 at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose, Colo.

She was born June 10, 1913 in LaJara, Colo. to Henry and Iva (Carr) Franklin. When she was a young girl, the family traveled by and lived in a covered wagon while her dad helped build roads throughout Idaho. The family then moved to Grand Junction and later to Collbran, where she graduated from high school. She was working as a nanny when she met her husband.

Violet married Ernest G. Bond in Price, Utah in 1935. They lived in Collbran, Uravan, Glenwood Springs and Rifle. Ernest preceded her in death on June 15, 1991.

Violet was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, crocheting and embroidery. Her hands were always busy. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved being called GrannyGreat by the little ones.

Violet cherished her family above all else and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she held many positions in the Sunday School and Relief Society. Before her husband’s death, they were active for many years in the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her two daughters, E. Louise (Lowell) Erenstoft of Fountain Valley, Calif. and Ginger (Larry) Ryser of Montrose. There are seven grandchildren, five step grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Rosalie Waller of Clifton and Virginia Jayne of Colorado Springs. Violet was preceded in death by both parents, three brothers and three sisters.

At Violet’s request, a private family service was held and burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rifle on Friday, April 18 at 2 p.m., next to her husband.
