MONTROSE — Lifetime Montrose resident, Robert L. “Bob” Schmidt, 71, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 6, 2008. He was born June 26, 1936 to Charles Edward and Dorothy Schmidt in Montrose, Colo. Bob attended first through eighth grade at the Uncompahgre school and graduated from Montrose High School in 1955. He then enlisted in the United States Navy and was aboard the U.S.S. Frank Knox and was honorably discharged in 1957.
Bob’s career was spent as a heavy equipment operator for over 50 years, working on roads at Trout Lake and Blue Mesa. He also traveled out of state for many years to Nevada, Oklahoma, Washington and Texas. Bob retired in October of 2001. He was a member of Montrose Elk’s Lodge No. 1053 and the American Legion. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Bob was also an avid Broncos fan.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rose in 1983 in Montrose; his second wife, Connie in Salt Lake City, in 2001; and one brother, Art Schmidt. At Bob’s request, cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home and Crematory of Montrose, 802 E. Main, Montrose, CO (970) 249-2121.
