Sullivan was tied for 30th with a 95, while Tafoya finished off day one with a 97, which was good enough to finish 37th.
“The scores were pretty high today,” MHS head coach Jim Scarry said. “It was a tough course, very challenging.”

Kent Denver’s Olivia Garard shot a 1-over 74 to take the first round lead.
Chance Forbes of Evergreen and Colorado Academy’s Elizabeth Kresock were three shots off the lead with rounds of 79. Michelle Stripp of Glenwood Springs had an 81 for third.
Colorado Academy and Kent Denver shared the team lead at 257. Broomfield and Golden were tied for third at 270.
Garard sank five birdies for the best round of the 84-member field. The longest putt she sank was a 15-footer on No. 11.
