MONTROSE — Former Delta area resident, Susie Barnette Barnes Cole passed away on Memorial Day, May 26, 2008, at Valley Manor in Montrose, Colo. She was 94 years of age.

Susie was born Jan. 12, 1914 in Hopkinsville, Ky. to Robert and Lillian Barnes, the sixth child of 14 children. She grew up and went to school in the Southern part of Illinois, near Herion.
On May 14, 1932, Susie married the love of her life, Cassius D. Cole, in Boulder, Colo. He preceded her in death. She had been a resident of Delta, Colo. since 1990 coming from Naturita, Colo.
Susie enjoyed crocheting rugs, arrowhead hunting, collage of wood pictures, and being a member of the Southern Calvary Baptist Church of Delta. Her greatest enjoyment in life was her family.
Those grateful to have shared in her life are her two daughters, Cassie Skelton of Montrose, Colo., and Carol Lanzl of Grand Junction, Colo.; two sons, Kenneth Cole of Montrose, Colo., and Ivan Cole of Cedaredge, Colo.; one sister, Pearl Castleberry of Collinsville, Okla.; 13 grandchildren, 34 great- grandchildren, and 17 great- great- grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her husband; daughter, Sue Garner; and three grandsons, Matthew Cole, Ivan Lanzl and Christopher Cole.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
