DELTA — Earl Edward “Ed” Jones, age 71, of Delta, Colo., passed away on May 26, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colo.

He was born Aug. 11, 1936 in Longmont, Colo. to LeRoy and Inez Percy Jones. Twenty years later, on his birthday, he married Alice Earldeen Webber in Pensacola, Fla. 

Ed served in the Navy for four years and was then a Chief Investigator for the District Attorney’s office in Golden, Colo. He put 10 years in with the City of Arvada Police Department before moving to Delta, Colo. to join the Jail Administration for the Montrose Sheriff’s Department. He retired from the Department of Revenue State of Colorado as an investigator in 1998. 

Ed was a life member of the Arvada Elks Lodge No. 2278 and the VFW Post No. 3571 of Delta, Colo. as well as a member of the Uncompahgre Treasure Club of Montrose.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Jones, and three daughters: Tami and Dennis Fraser of Gunnison, Colo., Tari Markley and Todd Goodnight of Montrose, Traci and Mike Barrientos of Golden, Colo., and a brother, Gary Jones of Crosby, Minn. Ed also leaves behind eight grandchildren and two great- grandchildren: Josh and Kaoife Fraser, Sumer and Eric Liebold, Joel Fraser, Brock and Tarae Hansen, Tia Espinoza and her son Gabriel, Mason and Naomi Markley and their daughter Kezia, Bryce Markley, and Quinton Barrientos.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Donald Jones.

Funeral services will be held on May 30, 2008, at 10 a.m., at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Delta, Colo.  Burial will be at Mesa View Cemetery following the service.  Visitation will be held at Mesa View Mortuary on Thursday, May 29, from 4 to 8 p.m.
