Man dies in Gunnison River rafting accident By Staff ReportGUNNISON — One man was found dead following a rafting accident on the Gunnison River Saturday afternoon. At about 2:30 p.m. Gunnison County Emergency Services was notified of a rafting accident that occurred on the Gunnison River between McCabe’s Lane, Gunnison County Road 32 and Blue Mesa Lake, Gunnison County Sgt. Randy Barnes reported. Two adults, a man and woman, and three juveniles were thrown from the raft when it overturned. The juveniles and woman were carried by the current a quarter mile downstream until they were able to climb out of the river. The man was later found dead about one and a half miles downstream from the accident, according to the report. The other parties were treated for multiple abrasions, hypothermia and are recovering. |
