MONTROSE — The new water tank on Sunnyside Road has been completed. It was connected to the city's water system beginning on Wednesday, the city of Montrose announced.

The tank, located on the east side of the city, will provide enough storage for 3 million gallons of water. The added capacity will expand the city's ability to store water for emergencies and use during peak demand times.

The construction of this tank is a part of the city’s efforts to update the water storage infrastructure, which has not been expanded since 1962.

The city is also in the process of planning for a third storage tank, which will bring the city’s water storage capacity up to 9 million gallons, which is needed to meet accepted criteria for public water systems.
