MONTROSE — Dick Shive, age 88, passed away at Montrose Memorial Hospital on the afternoon of Friday, June 20, 2008. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25 at Trinity Reformed Presbyterian Church in Montrose. Dick is survived by his wife, Sally E. Shive; two daughters, Sandra Wendt, Sharon Greene; and a stepson, Michael Martin.  His extended family includes grandchildren, Shawn and Dusty Wendt, Amy Rokoski, Sarah Wimmer, Andrew Greene, and Bill Martin; great-grandchildren, Chance and Dallas Wendt, and Shelby Rokoski.

Dick began his life on Jan. 30, 1920, in Dallas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Welch Shive. His early youth was spent in Southern California in the booming years of the ‘20s and then the struggles of the ‘30s Depression era.  The character of those years helped build within him a similar character of both optimism and dogged determination-just what America needed as he served in the U.S. Navy and helped bring us victory in WWII. After the war, Dick’s two daughters, Sandra and Sharon, were born and grew up in the Los Angeles area. Dick became an electrician and worked in the construction industry and for Glen Glenn Sound Studios in Hollywood.

He remarried in 1957 to Sally and acquired a stepson, Michael.  At about the same time he became a Christian and the whole focus of his life changed to one of dedication and service to his new Lord, Jesus Christ. During these years he and Sally took under

their wings a young friend Sue, and two nieces, Sarah and Jamie. In doing this, their sacrifices and outstanding Christian witness changed the lives of these young people forever.  In 1977 Dick and Sally moved to Telluride and a new life in beautiful Colorado. In 1988 they moved to Montrose and became members of Trinity Reformed Presbyterian Church.  It wasn’t long before Dick’s leadership qualities prompted the church to elect him to the office of deacon. He served the Lord in that capacity with great compassion and dedication until his declining health made it no longer possible.

He is gone now and will be sorely missed. But all who knew him can say with great confidence: “He fought the good fight, he has finished the race, he has kept the faith.”  Goodbye for now brother, but we will see you again. Praise the Lord!  Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home and Crematory, 802 E. Main St., Montrose, CO 81401 (970) 249-2121.
