Joseph Lew Williams

July 13, 1932 — June 26, 2008

MONTROSE — Joseph Lew Williams, age 75, of Montrose, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at his home. Joe, an only child, was born July 13, 1932 to Louis Eugene (Tootie) and Kathryn (Kate Hutcheson) Williams in Montrose, Colo. at the home of his grandparents, William Lewis and Rosie Williams. Joe lived on the family homestead until the time of his death.

Joe was an amazing and complex man who left an impression on everyone who came in contact with him. His unique, one of a kind character was cherised by friends and family. If you needed a friend, advice, or a job well done, he would be there along with his own colorful brand of humor and wit. No one could set a better example of hard work and believing in your own drive and initiative to reach goals and realize dreams. As a husband, he always put his wife, Ruby, first. He built homes of her dreams, with is own hands, and led her on many adventures throughout 56 years of marriage. Joe taught his family many lessons through experience. From building a fence to completing a college education, he made sure they were well rounded with skills and temperaments not only to reach but exceed life’s goals. During his 35 years as a teacher, he encouraged his students to set and pursue their goals. As a friend, he listened and shared words of wisdom. This 6’2” man would give the shirt off his back if you needed it. Joe “The Great White Hunter” balanced an appreciation for wildlife and the need to provide for his family. His hunting stories were told up until the end. Joe was a very creative man. He was a watercolor artist, architect, welder, woodcarver and much, much more.

Joe will lovingly missed by his wife Ruby; daughter, Jennifer Fallis (Mike); son, Scotty (Jeanette); daughter, Kelley Roby (Greg); and son, Roberto Cordova (Betty); as well as his grandchildren: Tanya and James Area, Sara Phillips, Josh and Ryan Williams; Eli and Charly Roby, Heidi and Dakota Bingham and Lana, Danielle, Lee and Michele Fallis; and eight great-grandchildren. The results of his natural ability to mentor and stories told around the kitchen table will linger for years to come. A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at 11 a.m., at the Montrose Christian Church.  The service will conclude at the church. A private family inurnment will be held at Grand View Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, 802 E.
