Richard L. Cox

June 13, 1941 — July 3, 2008

OLATHE — Richard L. Cox of Olathe, Colo. passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008 at his home, at the age of 67. Richard was born June 13, 1941 to Elton and Evelyn (Miller) Cox in Fairmont, W.V. He spent his childhood and graduated from high school in Fairmont and received his certification as an X-ray Technician from Fairmont State College.

Richard met Ann Sanders and they were married June 27, 1963 in Fairmont, W.V. Following their marriage, he joined the United States Army and spent four years in Germany, and loved the time they spent there. Richard and his family moved to Baltimore after his discharge from the military, and resided there until 1980 when he relocated  to Montrose, Colo. He worked at the Montrose Memorial Hospital until 1988 when he and Ann moved to Texas. He was employed by Pathlab and Thomason Hospital in El Paso, Texas until his retirement. Richard returned to the Montrose area where he made his home until his time of death.

Ann preceded him in death on Sept. 13, 1995.

Richard was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

He loved Colorado, the mountains, camping and the great outdoors. He was very involved in the Magic Circle Theatre in Montrose for many years.

Survivors include his mother, Evelyn Cox; sister, Diane Cox, both of Clermont, Fla; his three sons, Michael Cox and wife Jennifer of Brighton, Colo., Craig Cox and wife Jill, Brian Cox and wife Donna Stark all of Montrose; grandchildren, Braunsen Mitchell, Skylar Mitchell, Tessa Cox, Bethany Cox, and Mackenzie Cox.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The American Cancer Society, 2255 S Oneida St. Denver, CO 80224 in memory of Richard Cox, for brain cancer research.

A graveside burial service  is scheduled for Sunday, July 13, 2008 at  10 a.m. at Cedar Cemetery in Montrose with Pastor Paul Nystrom officiating.
