John Egger, 86, and Edna Overton, 86, both of Paonia, were headed eastbound on Forest Service Road No. 858, approximately 16.2 miles west of Highway 50, near Silver Jack Reservoir, when they drove off the right side of the road at about noon Saturday, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
After approximately 58 feet, the driver, Egger, swerved back to the left causing the vehicle to roll about six times down a very steep embankment. Egger, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle, said CSP Cpl. Duane Larson. Egger suffered internal and head injuries. Larson said he did not know the exact cause of death.

A witness to the accident had someone travel within cell phone range and call 911. An ambulance arrived before law enforcement, Larson said. They established a landing pad near Beaver Lake and Overton was taken to St. Mary’s by helicopter. Speed, alcohol or drugs were not involved in the accident, Larson said.
Fifty-six-year-old Montrose resident Dean Fouquet was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital Sunday afternoon after sustaining serious injuries in a motorcycle accident, according to the CSP.
Fouquet was headed westbound on Highway 50, 16 miles east of Gunnison Sunday, when his motorcycle had a flat tire. Fouquet was ejected from the vehicle, Larson said.
Fouquet was not wearing a helmet and his tires were in “poor condition,” said CSP. Alcohol, drugs or high speeds are not suspected.
