Ronald Walter Meecham May 9, 1938 — July 15, 2008 MONTROSE — Ron was born May 9, 1938 in Ely, Nev. Ron worked at the Robinson copper mines as well as the family owned business, Ely Disposal Service. In 1976, Ron moved to Montrose, Colo. where he worked for many years at Bob’s Rental and made many friends with the people of Montrose. Ron was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, as well as the Gold Prospectors Association of America. Ron retired and spent his retirement panning for gold, fishing, hunting, camping and enjoying life to the fullest. Ron enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, often taking them out on camping and hunting trips. Ron was diagnosed with cancer in 2006 and continued to fight it throughout the remainder of his life, still going to the mountains and enjoying life despite any setbacks. In the end, Ron said that he didn’t want to die in a hospital, and with the help of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, he spent his last week at home resting comfortably with his family at his side. Ron was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Meecham and his mother, Myrtle (Robertshaw) Meecham. He is survived by his wife, Vyette V. He loved spending time with his granddaughter, Kylee Meecham; she always held a special place in his heart calling her “Sweetie.” Ron requested that no services were to be held for him; his body is to be cremated and his ashes taken to the mountains that he loved so much.
