MONTROSE — Barbara Bromley, 77, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008 from cancer at home with family. Barbara was born in Rifle, Colo., Dec. 11, 1930, the daughter of Lawrence B. and Jenny (Taylor) Clark. Her father was a dentist in Rifle, and after his death, she and her mother lived in Uravan, Grand Junction and Denver, where Barbara graduated from East High School. She married Charles Bromley in 1949, and the family lived in places as varied as South Dakota, Arizona, Nevada, Wyoming, Mississippi and Panama. She and Charles traveled widely in their later years, including many voyages on cargo ships, including one which took them around the world.

Barbara was a longtime resident of Montrose and enjoyed her volunteer work at the Ute Museum/Montrose Visitors Center and Montrose Memorial Hospital. She also loved to spend her time with local historical and archaeological societies and went on many field trips with them. Always cheerful, it was rare to hear her utter a negative word, even through the course of the cancer that eventually took her life. She loved traveling and doing crossword puzzles, and with her bright smile, embodied intelligence, generosity, and a kindly sense of humor.
