Ronald ‘Ron’ Duane Cox

MONTROSE — Montrose resident Ronald “Ron” Duane Cox, age 64, died at his home Sunday, July 20, 2008.

Ron was born on June 4, 1944 in Dillon, Colo. to Harold and Marilynne (Herwick) Cox. He spent his childhood and attended school in Dillon graduating from Dillon High School.

In 1962, Ron joined the United States Air Force.

In 1971, Ron married the love of his life, Coleen Heer, in Las Vegas, Nev. The couple were blessed with two children. The Cox family moved from Meeker to Montrose in 1983 and made their home here.

Ron worked in construction and drove truck for the Fish and Wildlife Department throughout the state.

He and his wife were members of the Cedar Creek Church.

Ron loved the outdoors and he and his family enjoyed four-wheeling, and especially enjoyed trips to McPhee Reservoir for boating and camping trips. He also took pleasure in fly fishing and hunting with his friends, and son, Jesse. Ron and Coleen were also fond of dancing.

His family will remember Ron as a loving and creative man. He was an artist who loved to draw cartoons for the children in the family. He took pride in his woodwork and gave both his daughter and daughter-in-law beautiful hope chests one year for Christmas. Aside from the mountains and his art, Ron took great pride in his family. He loved spending time with them and playing with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors who were blessed to share Ron’s life include his wife of 37 years, Coleen Cox, of the family home; daughter, Melissa and husband Stevie Nusz, of Montrose; two sons, Jesse and wife Robyn of Delta, Colo., and Mike and wife Athena Reed of Stafford, Kan.; mother, Marilynne Cox of Montrose; and sister, Patti and husband Don Kier of Castle Rock, Colo. Ron is further survived by his loving grandchildren: Jonathan, Brendan, Mickey and Taryn Reed, Brittany, Hannah and Sheldon Cox, Shyler and Shabrielle Brown and Dellon Nusz.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, Harold Cox; and his brother, Harold Cox Jr.

A memorial service in honor and celebration of Ron’s life will be officiated by Pastor Greg Pugh on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at 1p.m., at the former Masonic Temple at 511 E. Main St.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402.
