Gottlieb ‘Pete’ Koppenhafer Jr.

MONTROSE —  Montrose resident Gottlieb “Pete” Koppenhafer, 80, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose, Colo. Pete was born in Rico, Colo., Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1927 to Gottlieb and Edna Koppenhafer.

He spent his childhood and attended school in Telluride, Colo. He worked for years as a miner at the Idarado Mine in Telluride.

Pete was a member of the Montrose Lions Club, which was an organization that was very rewarding for him. He spent a great deal of time participating in their civic activities. Pete received the Marvin Jones Fellow. He had also been a leader of the Cub/Boy Scouts of America, and was also active helping MADA in Montrose. Pete was recognizable to many Montrose residents, being an avid walker. He had no children, however, he did have an “adopted family,” John and Sharon Garrison and their three sons: Michael, Robert and Steven Garrison.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ruby Lee Harvey. A visitation for Pete will be held today, Wednesday, July 30, 2008, from noon to 2 p.m., at Valley Lawn Funeral Home Chapel followed immediately at 2 p.m. by a funeral service in honor and celebration of Pete’s life. Services will conclude at the chapel. Memorial contributions in Pete’s name may be made to the Montrose Lions Club.
