The elder Young told the Daily Press in a brief phone call he spotted the truck, but not his son.
Mark Young Jr., 21, was reported missing Tuesday, after he failed to show up for class at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and his roommate and a classmate could not find him in town.

This was reportedly a text message and the service provider eventually yielded to Young's requests for location information.
Civil Air Patrol planes searched the local area earlier Thursday. The Ouray County Sheriff's Office also searched the Yankee Basin area, where the Young family owns property, Ouray Sheriff Dominic "Junior" Mativi said.
Young Jr.'s truck was located at Chasm View, on Black Canyon's South Rim, Ranger Angie Richman said Thursday afternoon. It was in good condition, but there was nothing to point to the missing man's whereabouts.
"As yet, nothing has been found," she said.
Park service rangers were searching in the canyon and along the rim Thursday evening. Richman said they were awaiting a helicopter so they could perform a more thorough search.
Mark Young Jr. is described as blond, with brown eyes, approximately 5-feet, 10 inches and 165 pounds.
