DELTA — Hattie was the daughter of William Henry Jones and Cora Lee Crockett Jones. She was one of 13 children. When her father homesteaded, the Indians were being moved out of Delta, Colo., to Utah. In 1882, her father became foreman building the railroad to Delta.
Hattie married Welland Smith Feb. 10, 1935. He preceded her in death. Hattie and Welland moved to the ranch in Delta and lived there for 25 years traveling from farm to summer cattle range each spring and back in the fall. In 1948, they built their mountain home at the head of Escalante Canyon. They became parents of one child, Patricia, after 19 years of marriage.

Hattie loved to cook, sew, garden, ride horses and punching cows; but above all she loved her family, friends and her beloved cat Smokey. In 1974 she was blessed with a granddaughter, Jamie Lee and in 1979 she was blessed with a grandson, Clinton John. These grandchildren brought an abundance of happiness to their grandma’s life.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Cooper of Delta; a granddaughter, Jamie and husband Dave Botts of Delta; a grandson, Clinton and wife Christine Cooper of Montrose, Colo.; three great-grandchildren: David Botts of Delta, Cheyanna and Kendall Noles, all of Montrose.
The last three years she was blessed to have a wonderful care giver Ruth White to brighten her days.
