Eliza May Miller May 12, 1931 - Sept. 26, 2008 PAONIA—Lifetime Paonia resident Eliza Miller passed away on Sept. 26, 2008 at Paonia Care Center in Paonia, Colo. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008 at the American Legion Wilson Head Post No. 97 in Paonia. Eliza was born on May 12, 1931 in Salina, Kan., to Robert E. and Myrtle Wright Harding. She grew up and attended school in Paonia, where she lived her entire life. On June 11, 1949 Eliza married James A. Miller in Delta, Colo. Eliza worked as a mail carrier. She was very active in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, having the honor being a 50-year member. She was the poppy chairman for many years as well as a cook for Friday night suppers. Her other interests included gardening, cooking and helping others. Eliza had a soft spot in her heart for “critters,” often caring for them in her home. Those grateful to have shared in Eliza’s life include one son, Dennis Miller of Paonia; two daughters, Joy (Frederick) Venard, Paonia, and Belle (Dan) Burgess of Rock Springs, Wyo.; one brother, Ray (Virginia) Harding, Paonia; and one sister, Dorothy (Jay) Boren, Delta, Colo.; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Miller; a son, George Miller; her parents and her stepmother, Gladys Pierce-Harding.
