July 14, 1920-October 2, 2008

MONTROSE — Kathryn E. Gibson, age 88, of Britton, died on Thursday, October 2 at Arbor Hospice surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on July 14, 1920 in Britton, MI, the daughter of John and Minnie (Rendel) Gittus. She was married to Robert Gibson, and he preceded her in death March 1994.

Kate was a Lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was very active,  and served as a Sunday School Teacher. She was also a Life member of Tecumseh O.E.S. #51 where she held many points. Kate was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed doing crafts for the church bazaars. She was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Kate is survived by two sons, Gordon (Cheryl) Gibson of Montrose, CO and Alex (Deborah) Gibson of Estes Park, CO; one daughter, Barbara (Jerry) Dicks of Britton; one sister, Alys (Fred) Miller of Manitou Beach, MI; six grandchildren, Heather (David) Jones, Dr. Shannon (Ken) Roznay, Jeremy (Gina) Dicks, Michelle (Tim) Hastie, and Katy and Jack Gibson; two great grandchildren, Aubree and Kendall Jones. She is also survived by her “Michigan son”, Tom (Carol) Ashley of Britton. In addition to her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Patricia Gibson, two brothers, Wilton and Thomas Gittus, and one grandson, Brian Robert Dicks.

At her request, cremation has taken place.  There will be a memorial service to celebrate her life on Monday, October 6, 2008, at the Grace United Methodist Church, Britton, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Amy Mayo-Moyle officiating.  Visitation will be on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will take place at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 9250 E. Monroe Rd., Britton, MI  49229.
