CORTEZ — The Indians’ soccer team put away Cortez on Friday night, winning 3-1.
Montrose head coach Jim Lewis said the Indians played extremely well.

Cortez came out gunning, scoring early on in the first half. However, Montrose’s Kyle Kearns assisted Luis Cervantes, for Montrose’s first goal of the night, making the score 1-1 at half.
The second half only brought more success for Montrose.
Eliseo Gomez of Montrose scored two goals for Montrose in the second half, the first off an assist from Danny Silva and the second via Steven Tobler.
“We put on a lot of pressure. We regulated,” Lewis said of the second half.
Lewis also said Montrose goal keeper Rob McLaren played a crucial role in Friday’s win. Montrose was called for a penalty, resulting in a penalty kick in the first half. The score was tied 1-1, but McLaren blocked the shot.
“It was a game changer,” Lewis said. “They would have gone up 2-1, but he stopped that.”
McLaren had 12 saves for the night.
The Indians next face off against Durango at 11 a.m. today. Lewis said the team would be ready for a solid game this morning.
“There’s no time to celebrate,” Lewis said. “We’ll continue to play and get better.”
