Olathe wins big against Cedaredge, 58-20 Matt Lindberg CEDAREDGE — The Olathe Pirates football team learned last week when they were down early in the first quarter against Coal Ridge 14-0 that they couldn't afford to not to be completely prepared and overlook any team. On Friday night against Cedaredge, the Pirates learned from the previous week's mistakes and defeated Cedaredge 58-20 on the road. Olathe head coach Ryan Corn said he was more than happy with his team's performance. "They played tremendously," Corn said. Olathe came out with vengeance on Friday, scoring five touchdowns with extra points for 33 points in the first quarter. Corn said the team came out prepared for the game, more so than any other game so far this season. While Cedaredge managed to score 20 points throughout the game, Olathe couldn't be contained. They scored 13 points in the third quarter and 12 points in the fourth quarter. The Pirates had a big game as individuals as well. David Rhodes of Olathe went 12 for 192 rushing yards. Olathe quarterback Garhett Jurgens went six for 71 rushing yards and three for six, for 80 passing yards. Marvin Rivera of Olathe went nine for 64 rushing yards, while Dylan Markley of Olathe went three for 59 rushing yards and one for eight receiving yards. The win makes Olathe 6-0 for the season, but Corn said the team wasn't getting caught up in conversations about going undefeated this season. He said the Pirates take it one game at a time because it was all about getting to the playoffs. He said the regular season was build up to the post season, where you have to be on top of your game. However, Corn said he knew why his team was having so much success. "Our system is working and our kids buy into it," Corn said. Olathe plays at 7 p.m. on Friday in Olathe against Aspen. |
