MONTROSE — Walterene F. Moon, age 79, passed away on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 18, 2008 at the Montrose Memorial Hospital.

Walterene moved to Colorado in 2001 to be closer to family and was a resident of Colorow Care Center. During her time at Colorow, Walterene was a leader and inspirational in improving the quality of life for the community as well as her fellow residents. Recognizing desires of her fellow residents, she contributed to adding pets, and their 24-hour a day access to ice, soda, snacks, and most importantly ice cream, even at the breakfast table. In 2004, she acquired an important role in the process of the Boys and Girls Club moving their building to the Colorow site in Olathe. She continued a good friendship with the staff, and children and remained active with their activities. Walterene consistently contributed to Colorow, assisting with office tasks, holidays, and keeping the facility committed and focused to providing care “The Eden Way.” In 2007 she became a registered Eden Associate. She was awarded the International Eden Elder Award for her loving willingness to enhance and encourage quality of elder directed care. Her leadership brought joy, friendship and meaning to the Colorow community of residents. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
Walterene enjoyed spending time with her family and was a loving mother and grandmother. She also enjoyed bingo, crafts, and gambling especially at Stateline. She had an outgoing personality and a strong will.
Survivors include her daughters, Maria Meyers and husband Ronald; Carol Harris along with her grandson, Brian Meyers all of Montrose.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, and her husband Carl who passed away in 1989.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday at the Colorow Care Center in Olathe.
