MONTROSE — Harold Robert Scharf, age 76, died Monday morning, Oct. 20, 2008 at his home in Montrose. Harold was born on Nov. 30, 1931 to Robert and Rose (Mayor) Scharf in Bellview, Ohio. At the age of six months, Harold moved with his parents to Colorado, spending his childhood in Montrose and attending school here. He lived for awhile in the West End in Dry Creek Basin, from 1953 to 1960, moving back to Montrose where he farmed and ranched. Harold married Vera Linscott in Montrose on June 7, 1952 at the Baptist Church. Harold liked to work and took pride in his cattle and his crops. He also enjoyed watching bull riding.
Harold is survived by his wife of the family home, Vera (Linscott) Scharf; his son, Jack (Cindy) Scharf of Montrose; his daughter, Susan (Denny) Hanson of Grand Junction; sons, Steve (Marvella) Scharf of Olathe, Mike (Donna) Scharf of Montrose, Jerry (Jan) Scharf of Montrose, and Dave (Tessa) Scharf of Montrose, as well as his grandchildren, Billy (Laci) Scharf, Brett Hanson, Brock (Tarae) Hanson, Jody (Kevin) Arnold, Scott (Marie) Scharf, Jim Scharf, Jenna Scharf, Jaclyn Scharf, Brittany Scharf, Neale (Derin) Scharf, and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Aubree, and his sister Carol (Jim) Barrett of Boise, Idaho. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son, Jim Michael, and his brother, Don Scharf.
