MONTROSE — Following the end of the 2008 volleyball season, a number of well deserved honors have been announced as the result of both league and state associations of coaches.

Named to the All-Southwestern League by its coaches are Ana Finley, Kelsie Dardis, and Brianna Verble for Montrose High. Finley and Dardis were selected to the first team with Verble receiving second team recognition.

Additionally, Finley and Verble have been chosen by the Colorado High School Coaches Association to participate in the annual All-State Games, June 13, 2009, at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.

Ana Finley received recognition by Southwestern League coaches as the league’s Player of the Year and has been tabbed to play in the Colorado Coaches of Girls’ Sports (CCGS) this coming Sunday, Nov. 16, at Broomfield High School. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

The CCGS began sponsoring an All-State Volleyball Game in 1978 to provide female high school athletes a showcase for talent. Each senior selected must be nominated by coaches from her league, with coaches representing leagues across the state making the final selection of the 18 Class 4A players who are chosen for their talent, dedication, team play, and leadership.

Finley, who currently maintains a 3.9 grade point average had a career match high of 47 digs during her team’s confrontation with eventual state champion Cheyenne Mountain.

In addition to the honors for Montrose High School players, head coach Shane Forrest was named Southwestern League Coach of the Year, and Heidi Voehringer was honored as the Colorado High School Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year.
