MONTROSE — Betty Elaine Allen, of Montrose, Colo. went to be with the Lord on Friday afternoon, Nov. 14, 2008. She died at Montrose Memorial Hospital at the age of 79.

Betty was born Dec. 12, 1928 to Joseph and Edna (Bowmen) Winters at Fruita, Colo. Her family moved frequently during Betty’s childhood years. Moving between Colorado and Nevada wherever work was available.

Betty met and married Robert Calvin Allen on April 15, 1950 in Grand Junction, Colo. Robert and Betty have celebrated 58 years of marriage and resided at San Juan Living Center in Montrose. They moved to Montrose seven years ago coming from Alabama where they lived for six years. Betty and Robert also made their home in Grand Junction for many years and met many friends while they lived and worked there.

Betty loved spending time with her family. She was always thankful for what she had and her table was never too small. Betty enjoyed giving to others and bringing a smile to anyone’s face. She enjoyed crocheting and cooking. Betty will be missed by her family and her many friends at San Juan Living Center.

Survivors include her husband Robert Allen of Montrose; her children, Robert (Carol) Allen of San Antonio, Texas, JoAnne (Glen) Reed of Fort Collins, Colo., Yvonne (John) Jackson of Ridgway, Colo., Carol (James) Card of Newman, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Robert (Desiree) Allen, Kristine Laucius of San Antonio, Texas, Philip Allen of San Antonio, Texas, Dawn Allen of Fort Collins, Cammy (Chris) Kearns of Montrose, Deanna (Greg) Wells of Montrose, Debbie (Mike) Ellis of Arkansas, Jamie (Don) Scudder of Newman, Calif.; sister, Bonnie Smith of Reno Nev., sister-in-law, Elvera Winters of Grand Junction; and 16 great-grandchildren.  Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Merle, Clinton, Bill and Kenneth Winters; sisters, Estella Britton, Hazel Hyde and Dorothy Ward. 

A public visitation for family and friends was held on Monday, Nov. 17, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service in celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose. Memorial contributions may be made to San Juan Living Center, In memory of Betty Allen, 1043 Ridge St., Montrose, CO 81401.
