Montrose football players honored

MONTROSE — Even though Montrose High's football season ended last Saturday in the state playoffs, the Indians have continued a successful season by garnering league honors.

Ten MHS football players were given All Conference Honors this week. Montrose head coach Todd Casebier said the honors represented the successful 10-2 year.

"It's an example of the year we've had," Casebier said. "We dominated the league."

On offense, sophomore Nathan Robertson was named All Conference quarterback. Junior Jordan Passehl was named All Conference running back. Sophomore David Turner and Junior Kyle Miller were named All Conference linemen. Senior Shane Hedrick was named All Conference kicker.

On defense, senior John Aranas was named All Conference defensive lineman. Seniors Mitch West and Mac Alexander were named All Conference defensive backs, while senior Taylor Neill was named All Conference kick returner.

MHS senior Brian Rumbaugh took top honors, as he was named All Conference linebacker and defensive player of the year. Seniors Brandon Franklin and Taylor Neill were given honorable mention for defensive line and linebacker, respectively.

"He had an outstanding senior year," Casebier said of Rumbaugh. "He had off season work ethic and played great in the games — great to coach."

Casebier said he thought there were some other guys on the team who deserved the honors, but that he was happy with everyone who was given an All Conference title.

In addition to Montrose football, MHS received honors in other sports. MHS volleyball coach Shane Forrest, MHS golf coach Angelo DeJulio and MHS soccer coach Jim Lewis were named Southwestern League coaches of the year
