Delta County resident, Merle Gene Isom Sr., died surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at his home in Eckert, Colorado. He was seventy-two years of age.

Merle Gene Isom was born to Lawrence Lester Isom and Anna Lora Richardson on July 5, 1936, in Spiro, Oklahoma. He spent his childhood and attended schools in Chowchilla, California. He has resided in Eckert, Colorado, since 1997 coming from Olathe.
Merle honorably served his country with the United States Air Force.
Merle married Florris P. Arnett on April 13, 1968, in Sana Cruz, California. The couple had the privilege of celebrating forty years of love and marriage together this year. Florris survives.
Merle was a agricultural farmer for many years. More importantly, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His interests included going hunting and golf, and spending time with his family.
Merle is survived by his loving wife, Florris Isom of Eckert, CO; four sons, Merle Isom Jr. of Montrose, CO; Boyd McAlexander and his wife Rita of Cedaredge, CO; Brian McAlexander and his wife Heidi of Fallon, NV; Bruce McAlexander and his wife Bobi of Craig, CO; one daughter, Brenda Baecker and her husband Rick of Montrose, CO; his twin brother, Earl Isom and his wife Franki of Delta, CO; and one sister, Joyce Marvin and her husband Eddie of California. Merle is further survived by thirteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Anna Isom; one sister, Norma Jean Morehead; and one brother, Billy Ross Isom.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Merle’s memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 24, Delta, Colorado 81416.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
