Fight Night-Violence Night-What are you teaching those kids?

Wake Up!!!!!    Hasn't Montrose High School and the Montrose area seen enough violence?

A young girl is almost murdered in the halls of MHS. A few years back, a little coward goes to his daddy's truck and get a baseball bat and attacks and beats another student in the halls of MHS. Earlier this year, a teen brandishes a knife at  MHS and police take him down a few blocks from the school after a chase and a fight with officers.

Fight Night is not boxing. It is not wrestling. It is not a sport. It is POINTLESS VIOLENCE. Beating someone into a semi coma or until blood come out of their eyes, nose, and ears is not a sport. It is a lesson by Montrose High School that beating your opponent into a bloody pulp and submission is how we do it around here. 

The wrestling coach organized this brawl and the MHS students sold tickets. It is is a disgrace that the administration of the school district and MHS allowed and sanctioned this brawl for ANY reason. The business sponsors of this "Cowboy Fight" should be ashamed of their support of this lesson of violence. For Montrose Memorial Hospital to have been a part of this is impossible to understand.

Parents should be outragged about the message that is being sent through the school to to their children.

The broadcast of the brawl on KUBC radio was highlighted by descriptions of the blood and the beatings. The lowlights of the broadcast was the two Fight Night announcers joking around and about an ad for a domestic violence center/hotline. Don't believe it, check the tapes!  What the.....???? Has this community lost it Moral Compass? Maybe this explains why there are so many felonies plead down to misdemeanors and a wrist slap.

So what is the next fund raiser when the public fails to support High School sports? Knife fights in the Baldridge Park or maybe hunting rifles at 300 yards on the Hogback. Wait! I have it: swords, tridents, chains and spears in an arena and you fight until the loser submits or cannot stand up anymore. The fairgrounds arena has a much bigger seating area and think of all the money you can raise for the Wrestling Program at MHS.

The level and frequency of violence and attacks in Montrose is alarming. The escalation of violence from words to threats to fists and then shovels or baseball bats is happening every day.  How many times a month do the Police/Sherriff and Paramedics responded to fights? They responded just last night to aid a fight victim off Main St. How many time have the Police had to Taser someone because they tried to take on and fight the Police?

Schools are teaching institutions that lead by example and instruction. Fight Night should not be apart of either.
