MONTROSE — Emma M. Valdez, age 88, of Montrose, passed away Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 at Montrose Memorial Hospital in Montrose, Colo. Emma was born in Velarde, N.M. on April 13, 1920 and lived most of her life in Durango, Colo.  In Durango she married Alfred Valdez and together they had two children, Rose and Albert. In later years, she moved to Montrose to be close to her daughter, Rose. 

Emma is survived by her daughter, Rose and son-in-law, John Vigil of Montrose; grandsons, John (Karen) Vigil and Tony Vigil and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Nellie Maestas and brother Mickey Romero of Durango and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred, son Albert, mother Eva Jacquez, brothers Daniel and Frank. Emma will be remembered for her warm smile, the twinkle in her eyes and for the love and support she gave to all she met.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango.  A public visitation will be held prior to the service starting at noon up to service time. Rite of Committal will be held at the Greenmount Cemetery in Durango following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home, 802 E.
