MONTROSE — Harriett C. Harrison, age 92, passed away early Sunday morning, Dec. 7, 2008 at San Juan Living Center in Montrose.

On Feb. 3, 1916, Harriett Corrine Veo was born in Cimarron, Colo. to Dutch and Harrietta (Truesdale) Veo. Harriett was raised on the family ranch in Cimarron. She attended grade school in Cimarron and boarded out in Montrose while attending Montrose County High School graduating in 1934. She spent her entire life living in the Cimarron, Sapinero, and Montrose areas.

Harriett married Joe Harrison March 7, 1936. While being a mother and housewife, Harriett cooked for various restaurants and institutions, managed Anderson Drug Coffee Shop for 11 years, and baked for the Red Barn Restaurant until her retirement. Her reputation for delicious cinnamon rolls and pastries is well known throughout the Montrose area.

Surviving Harriett are her four children: Eldon Harrison (Joyce), Marguerite Wakefield (Pat), Dean Harrison (Tracy), and Darwin Harrison (Julia); nine grandchildren: Spike, Dwayne, Shawna, Michelle, Sundee, Sheila, Klee, Kim and Joe; nine great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

Those preceding her in death were her husband, Joe Harrison who died in 1973, and her 12 brothers and sisters. Harriett was the last of the second generation of Veo’s in the Montrose area.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening, Dec. 11, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. A funeral service will held at Sunset Mesa Funeral Directors’ Chapel on Friday afternoon, Dec. 12, 2008 at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, in loving memory of Harriett Harrison, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402.
